Tea – the drink of the gods.
I’m a tea drinker; I always have been and always will be. My preference is for what I call builder’s tea…nice and strong, with a dash of milk and no sugar.
Ok, ok, I know most builders like at least three teaspoons of sugar in their tea..but it’s the strength and flavour that makes it a builder’s brew.
Recently I’ve been reading about new research that highlights some of the health benefits of green tea.
Green tea is loaded with polyphenols such as falvonoids and catechins which are antioxidants. These reduce the body’s production of free radicals and that’s good for your health. It also contains many beneficial minerals.
Both green and black tea contain a combination of caffeine and L-theanine. Caffeine improves alertness and concentration but the L-theanine increases dopamine, alpha waves and GABA production in the brain that have anti-anxiety effects on the mood.
There are additional studies that show how green tea can lower your risk of Alzheimers, stroke, cancer and even help you lose weight!
