Chinese herbs

Chinese herbal medicine has been practiced alongside acupuncture for several thousand years. It uses the same diagnosis methods that are used in acupuncture but as some conditions are hard to treat with acupuncture alone, treatment is supplemented by a herbal remedy.

When a diagnosis has been determined, some treatment will be with acupuncture and some with a herbal medicine. This is beneficial when a condition is particularly chronic or deep rooted as herbs can be taken on a daily basis to supplement the acupuncture treatment meaning treatment session can be less frequent.

What are ‘patent’ Chinese herbs?

The herbs prescribed are called ‘patent’ herbs.  These are mixtures of powdered herbs which have been used for many generations. They are taken in capsule or tablet form, making them easy to swallow with water.

A course of herbs can vary from a few weeks to several months. There will be regular treatment sessions where the patient's progress will be reviewed and acupuncture given.

All the herbal remedies used are plant based. They do not include any animal or mineral content, are suitable for vegetarians and are manufactured to internationally recognized standards.
